Performance

Today Friday, a day that will test my nerves the most..I was asked to perform infront of assembly..And so i did ...Waiting back stage nervously while my friends did their singing and guitar display infront of assembly and when i could hear the applause while waiting back stage in a room, I knew they were done and so it was my turn ...I was so cold and nervous but logically you would go why should I be nervous? But when the time comes ,i was just shaking ..

Went up looking calm and compose with my teacher's $3K classical guitar ,The song was "Classical Gas" which i ace ages ago...What was bad was the fact that I hit the wrong note at the very start which caused me to panic more...But i try to stay compose and calm and played my piece, all was calm until it came to the chorus part of the instrumental song classical gas ...I repeated the chorus for God knows how many times and worst of all it was not meant to be played like that...And starting to panic i started hitting wrong strings and notes and i forgot how to end the song ...So i just stopped and walked away and they clapped of course..Feeling shit and crappy i went back stage (almost felt like crying for once ) and my guitar teacher / teacher came and was like you did fine and just said i didn't control the situation but the nerves took over, so he asked me to play for the next assembly which was in 30 minutes time...

The first assembly is the senior assembly Year 11-12-13
The second assembly is the junior assembly Year 9 - 10

and he was like "It is time to conquer the monster" which i think refers to the bad performance and stage fright as well as nerves...After much practice....Fast forward to the juniors entering assembly..Okay the same group of performers went out first and did their stuff and then around of applause, i was calm and started to panic again ...They came in and said it was my turn and one of the guy went "You are ready man ..more then ready"...I went out, slightly nervy from the crowd and also from the first screw up ,got there and played ...Hit the right note at the start ( so that is good) and proceeded ...And half way i started to felt the nerves but i just nodded my head and kept my mind on the song and it is about the "Now" ...Towards the end of the song (hitting every note perfectly) i started to make mistakes( or so i thought) but somehow the notes rang clearly and perfectly and after it was all over i went "Thank You"...And never felt so satisfied, after that performance I thought that half the school would think i was awesome and half would think i was lame ...But thanks to the assistant principal and teachers for their encouragement and after that performance my guitar teacher went " That is it "...

But my biggest mistake was stopping half way during my first performance because i let the nerves take over because of so many mistakes but apparently most of them didn't even know i made mistakes(minor mistakes but not major anyway) but all wondered why half way i stopped ...So far the top guitarist in the school is a junior whom is my friend as well and he is in year 10 while me in year 12...And my music teacher heard the second performance went well because one of the junior guy went to Jianie (the top guitarist in the school who plays blues stuff awesomely )and asked him whether he could play that and he went "nah , it is too hard"...So probably some of the junior guys might think i am awesome and probably better then jianie now ...But in reality , i have alot more to learn, and to be awesome ? well ..it will take hrs of practice and learning ..And hopefully one day i will be as good as jianie or better..but one thing is for sure , i can smash him in classical (finger stuff) and he will smash me with anything with a pick aka Blues ..

Overall a good experience and exposure..Might as well screw up sooner then later and have the experience that will follow me for the rest of my life ( confidence of not screwing up again)
